Happy early Thanksgiving, all!

In this moment of gratitude, we thought it would be important to give thanks for our natural strengths, which we all have. So below we offer some insights on finding your flow and finding your genius.

Speaking of flow, you know how too much of a good thing can become a problem. Like how a strength on overdrive becomes a weakness. Well, that sometimes can happen with flow. For those of us who can get into our work and are highly committed, being in flow can mean working too many hours. So, we wanted to offer some thoughts on “When to Pull Up & Out of Flow” to help us all keep our hours in check. Read more here.

I hope you are able to find time to connect and give thanks together with family and friends next week, even if distanced. Below we offer some considerations to inspire conversations in those gatherings.

Be well, everyone!

Kathy

We’d love to hear what would be helpful to you on your Sustainable Ambition journey.

The Round-Up

Right Success: Smart insights here on how to get past challenges by focusing on your why.

Right Aspiration: Some great lessons from this episode of Whitney Johnson’s podcast with the founders of Studio McGee. How do you jump to your next learning S-curve? How do you let in what’s being presented to you and showing up for you? How can you reframe the circumstances to make the choice feel powerful to you?

Right Effort: Use contemplation as a form of mindfulness. In this article, the author shares several tools to utilize to get you contemplating!

Reading: Knowing your genius is another way of finding the skills that put you in flow. Laura Garnett has written 2 books on the topic: The Genius Habit and Find Your Zone of Genius. I’m digging into both.

Listening: Genius is in the air. Patrick Lencioni and team from The Table Group (and “The Five Dysfunctions of a Team” fame) have created a new tool around What is Your Genius? Hear more on their podcast.

Smiling: How cool is this?! Sounds of forests from all over the world. I’d love to have these on a sound reel as background while working.

Featuring: Even if we need to give thanks apart this year, have fabulous conversations with family and friends. Try Story Corps list of Great Questions or to be prepared for more engaged conversations learn more at Living Room Conversations.

Conduct a Flow Audit

One of the best gifts we can give ourselves is learning what activities we really enjoy, what are called intrinsic motivators. These are activities when you lose track of time or you’d do even if people weren’t paying you, say. As Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi, the psychologist who identified and coined the concept, wrote about flow: “[It is] a state in which people are so involved in an activity that nothing else seems to matter; the experience is so enjoyable that people will continue to do it even at great cost, for the sheer sake of doing it.”

If you’re not sure what motivates you, conduct your own flow audit.
