Sustainable Ambition Forum - 06.07.22
Have you ever wondered what it would be like to step out on your own? To not work within the confines of a corporate environment?
A Sustainable Ambition podcast listener asked this very question and suggested it as a topic: “What is it like to leave corporate, and do you have any tips?”
The result: A 5-part series with my good friend, Philip VanDusen, who’s been on the podcast with me two times before. Both of us have had long careers in Corporate and then went out on our own, including a shared journey that we discuss.
The 5-part series is Creating a Work Life after Corporate Life and covers:
Own your professional brand narrative: How to build your brand while you are still employed. Listen here.
Recognizing it’s time to go and how to go. Listen here.
What to do before you pull the plug and jump ship. Coming soon!
Getting resourced. Coming soon!
Getting your brand and new business going: The set-up and beyond. Coming soon!
I’ll admit this is a big topic, and we certainly don’t cover all there is to know about starting a business. But, our intent with this series is to be transparent about our own journeys and give you some insight into what we’ve learned along the way. Our hope is that the series serves as a guide to going out on your own, whether that is self-employment, solopreneurship, or starting a full-fledged small business.
There are plenty of great books out there, too, to support you along the way. I’ve captured some below that I’ve appreciated both as pure inspiration and for the strategic and practical guidance. I’m also sharing a couple of podcasts I like to listen to for insight and ideas.
I hope you’ll join us for the ride! Let me know what you think about the series and other questions you might have about leaving corporate. We’ll keep the discussion going.
Warmly,
Kathy
P.S. Do you have a listener question you’d like me to answer on the podcast or here? Send me a note!
P.P.S. You can do it on your own. Make your favorite. : )

It was so great to be on the Centered in the City podcast with Wade Brill. We talk about how noticing our personal pace, practicing pauses, and letting go of perfectionism are key ingredients to creating sustainable ambition in our own lives. Listen in!
And check out Centered in the City to help you feel calm and centered amidst the chaos of life. Wade offers some great tools and a community to help you stay centered with all life throws at us.
The Monthly Progress Practice: June
At the beginning of the year, we shared our Monthly Progress Practice. Progress happens through small actions, so we offer a monthly practice of small actions or micro-habits to inspire positive change this year.
Our guidance for June: Focus. As you enter summertime, what needs your attention right now? Where can you cut things from your list to simplify? Cut out the unnecessary to create space for the important.

“Inaction breeds doubt and fear. Action breeds confidence and courage. If you want to conquer fear, do not sit home and think about it. Go out and get busy.”
