Autumn carries powerful contrasting meanings. On the one hand, it’s the time when deciduous trees shed their leaves, hence “Fall,” preparing to go dormant. Yet, autumn is also the time of harvest, making one think of richness and bounty.

As the season turns, perhaps it’s a reminder to shed the things that hold us back and no longer serve us, such as our doubts, fears, and judgements. And in doing so, allow ourselves to be our full, powerful selves, ready to produce and create from a space of abundance.

The articles and podcasts featured this month support this theme of getting past what holds us back from being powerful leaders, creators, or contributors in all aspects of our life and giving ourselves permission to step into all we can be and all that life offers.

I’ll call your attention to two Sustainable Ambition podcast interviews with experts that touch on these themes:

  • Clare Josa, who I just loved, is an expert on Imposter Syndrome. It’s not surprising that her work dovetails into people becoming the full leaders they are meant to be.

  • Kristoffer Carter (KC) is founder of This Epic Life and author of a new book, “Permission to Glow: A Spiritual Guide to Epic Leadership.” I loved this conversation with KC and his focus on 4 permissions that give us the key to being able to take on all life throws at us and show up as amazing leaders. KC’s book is now available for pre-order and comes out on October 5. Check it out!

With that, enjoy the Fall, all! I’ll channel KC and say give yourself permission to “glow in the dark” and “glow in the light.”

Cheers!

ICYMI: Coming Workshops! I’m considering hosting workshops in October-December’21 and want to select the topic(s) that would be of most interest.

Workshop Topics:

  • Uncover Your Leadership Brand: Want to be a better leader? In this workshop, get clear on who you want to be as a leader and the impact you want to have on those around you to elevate your leadership performance.

  • Build Your Work-Life Resilience Plan: Seeking to have a more sustainable work-life? Craft your plan to create what will work for you to have more work-life resilience.

  • Guide to a Career Transition: Are you at a career inflection point? Or, do you want to have more clarity and a vision for what’s next for your career? This program will help you get clear on what's important, know what you want to carry forward from the past, and start to look forward and craft what’s next.

If you’re interested in joining one of the above, please shoot me a quick email and let me know which you’d be interested in and what you’d hope to gain from the program. Thanks!

The Round-Up

Leadership Saboteurs: Wondering what might be getting in your way of being a great leader? Kristoffer Carter unveils the 4 saboteurs that often hold us back.

Turn Anxiety into Excitement: Studies have shown that reframing anxiety into excitement works. Here are a few tips to chase away the gremlin talk to have your anxiety work for you.

No Shame Here: Release the shame around imposter syndrome. The majority of us suffer from it, especially high achievers.

Kick I.S. to the Side: I loved Clare Josa’s book, “Ditching Imposter Syndrome: How to finally feel good enough and become the leader you were born to be.” Clare explains the nuances around understanding imposter syndrome and how to think about it vs. normal growth and learning. The book is full of great exercises to help you deal with imposter syndrome and more. Clare also offers online resources to complement the book and teachings. If you are like the rest of us dealing with imposter syndrome, start to address it today. Clare can help!

Living with Insecurities: I appreciated this episode of Adam Grant’s Work Life podcast, which also explores imposter syndrome and living with insecurities. Listen in to hear how to turn our fears around to fuel us rather than stop us from reaching our goals.

Go Ahead & Shine (Smiling): Talk about being one’s full self and shining. Always love seeing the annual comedy wildlife photography awards.

Episode #29: On Permission to Glow & Epic Leadership with Kristoffer Carter

If you aren’t a spiritual person, don’t get scared off by this episode or the title of Kristoffer Carter’s new book, “Permission to Glow: A Spiritual Guide to Epic Leadership.” I suggest you be open to the power of what KC is “preaching.” It’s all about ways to open ourselves up to truly lead in all aspects of our lives and do so in a way that is sustainable. If you’re looking to up your leadership game and to find more capacity for what life is throwing at you, then KC’s 4 Permissions™ framework can help unlock new potential.

A Practice:

Ever feel discontented, frustrated, worried, or like things aren’t going the way you’d want? In those moments, ask yourself what Clare says is her magic question and which I’ve been asked and have used as a prompt, as well: What do I want instead?

It’s a powerful way to shift your mindset and think about solutions rather than negatively ruminating. The question prompts you to consider what it will take to shift the situation for you, putting you back in control to take action in manifesting what you want instead.

“As we let our light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence actually liberates others.”
