Conscious Ambition Tips: Discerning where to apply our effort

Below are Conscious Ambition Tips inspired by 3 questions I ask in Sustainable Ambition to discern where to apply our effort:

  • Aspiration: Are you putting in the effort for what you desire and aspire for your life?

  • Motivation: Can we find the sweet spot between effort desired and effort required?

  • Determination: Is the hard work and grit worth the desired outcome and personal reward?

Working from those three questions, here are a few Conscious Ambition Tip prompts to play with.

Aspiration:

One of my favorite quotes is from Benedictine monk Brother David Steindl-Rast: “You know the antidote to exhaustion is not necessarily rest. . . . The antidote to exhaustion is wholeheartedness.”

For what do you want to be wholehearted?

Motivation:

When are you happy to be adding the egg and water to the mix? As Dr. Sahar Yousef said in our podcast interview, “You need to keep telling yourself that putting in the effort toward a job well done feels good.”

Essentially, where can you find joy in the process and your progress?

Determination:

“Don’t let go of your courage the moment things stop being easy or rewarding. Because that moment? That’s the moment when interesting begins.” —Elizabeth Gilbert, “Big Magic: Creative Living Beyond Fear”

Where do you have the commitment and determination to see when things get interesting?
