Listen to Your Heart

When it comes to work and a career, sometimes it makes sense to do the rationale thing. For example, one may think she needs to get certain experience to ensure she is relevant and marketable in the future. But when that rationale decision results in less motivation and malaise, it’s likely not the best course of action. One’s body typically knows the truth better than your head.

If you get more excited about other activities, topics, and ideas than your current work, it’s a signal that you are not following your heart. Sometimes following your heart really is the right answer. Being rationale just isn’t a way to live your life.

The Insight: Be generous with yourself and be willing to do what your heart desires, rather than always making what may seem like the rationale decision. It’s not rationale if it leads to day-to-day unhappiness.
